Understand the companies and credentials behind the project

How Illinois homeowners should verify solar credentials

LuNova Solar is the customer-facing DBA of JV Solar LLC. A residential solar project can also involve an installer, project developer, equipment manufacturers, financing provider, utility and an Illinois Shines Approved Vendor or designee. Those roles may be performed by different organizations, so the proposal and agreements should identify the responsible legal entities clearly.

For an Illinois installation, homeowners should focus on the credentials and responsibilities that apply to the actual Illinois project. A license or certification from another state can provide additional background, but it does not replace Illinois requirements. Current status and scope should be verified before signing because registrations, business relationships and program participation can change.

Installer certification

Confirm which entity will perform or supervise installation and whether it holds the Illinois credentials required for the work. The name on a credential should match the legal entity responsible for the licensed activity—not only a customer-facing brand name.

Illinois Shines roles

If the project uses Illinois Shines, ask which Approved Vendor submits the application and whether other companies participate as designees or subcontractors. The Illinois Shines program publishes official tools for reviewing participating organizations.

Insurance and warranties

Ask for current insurance documentation and read the warranty language. Equipment, workmanship, roof-penetration, production and financing obligations can come from different parties and may have different terms, exclusions and claim procedures.

Credential checklist before signing

  • Legal company name and DBA shown in the agreement.
  • Identity of the installer and project developer.
  • Applicable Illinois license or certification and current status.
  • Illinois Shines Approved Vendor or designee relationship, when applicable.
  • Proof of current insurance appropriate to the work.
  • Who provides equipment, workmanship and roof-related warranties.
  • Who owns service responsibilities under a cash, loan, PPA or lease structure.

Request project-specific documentation

Credential information should match the companies and responsibilities in the actual proposal. Contact LuNova with questions about the entities listed for your project or review the homeowner FAQ before comparing offers.
